In the 5th of October 2009, Portugal celebrates 99 years without monarchy! On this date, a republican coup deposed king D. Manuel II and estabilished the first Portuguese republic.

Taking advantage of the state of depression and confusion caused by the current economical downturn, some poor souls have been trying to revive the "monarchic feeling" in Portugal. Swaping the national flag for the monarchic flag, claiming forgotten towns in Spain, etc.

Therefore I want to revive my appreciation for living in a country that is NOT ruled by a caste of dictators that justify their absolutism with religious non-sense.

nao sou activista. Acho apenas que se trata de uma ocupação ilegal. Duzentos anos jà là vão, é certo, mas devemos esquecer e deitar para tràs das costas uma afronta tão grande à nossa pàtria? Sim, talvez que qualquer tipo de nacionalismo seja uma ideia estupida: querer dar à força toda um nome e uma bandeira a um monte ou a um prado e dizer depois que a maior honra de uma vida é morrer por eles nao faz qualquer sentido se pararmos para pensar um bocado nisso. Mas se vamos tirar uma bandeira que nao seja para a substituir por outra, se vamos apagar uma fronteira que nao seja para desenhar outra mais alem.

Qual é a tua opinião?
