Professor Kang started his own group in Shanghai 1992, to do research on limb development in mammals. But against all agreements, the institute failed to provied suficient funding to hire technical staff, post docs or PhD students. Kang would either quit his position or do all the lab work by himself. He applied his expertise and generated two extra-arms on his abdomen to perform multi-tasking. The modification is impressively efficient allowing Kang to perform high troughput tasks (it is said he sequenced the whole genome of his wife by himself using the Sanger method). Oddly, after 5 pm he looses control of the ectopic arms as they wander off to the nearest bar and spend all his money in Mojitos.

Notes:
the idea for this freak came from a conversation I had with another researcher a while ago where he said "why spend money in high throughput machines when you can hire a chinese post doc?"
Liu Kang is the name of a character in the video game Mortal Kombat.
Ectopic limbs can be generated in mice and chickens by fiddling with the appropriate signalling molecules in the embryo. [link]

I have to say: This Liu Kang does not look very Chinese, but rather a Portuguese. Maybe we should develop some methods to transform people from one nation to another. What do you think?
