Description
Today marks 10 years since I became a migrant. I've studied and worked mostly in the UK, a short while in Germany and I currently live and work in Sweden.
It's been a good time. I've made many friends and learned a lot. Unfortunately these were also the years in which migrants were gradually demonised and blamed for everything from stealing jobs to being lazy, for putting pressure on welfare systems to lowering wages. Politicians across Europe quickly capitalised on these fears to gain popularity and votes and boy, have they succeeded in that!
The situation degraded to the cynical situation we find ourselves today where borders are closed and fences raised to keep away refugees that, once again, are the root of all evils.
Who knows what the future holds for us border-crossers but at the moment that future looks bleak.
I suppose since I'm in America, I'm a little bit spoiled with the politicians here, especially the good ones, who make an effort to talk about helping immigrants and migrants, especially since I'm an immigrant myself. But out there in other countries, you guys may have much more difficult work ahead if you.
Question. Have you ever considered going to the United States, or have you already tried a little bit?
